Fly UK's featured destination for August is Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland. Although it is only the second biggest city in Scotland, it is the most populated. Edinburgh attracts over 1 million overseas visitors a year, making it the second most visited tourist destination in the United Kingdom. Two of the city's districts are designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the old and new town districts. This shows that the city is rooted in history as it has over 4,500 listed buildings. There are 40 conservation zones in the city.

August sees Edinburgh play host to the Edinburgh Festival. Made up of the Edinburgh International Festival, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and several smaller festivals. The Edinburgh Festival was introduced in 1947. The festival is currently comprised of 23 independent festivals.

Edinburgh Airport has two asphalt runways, 06/24 and 12/30. Earlier in the year BAA sold the airport to Global Infrastructure Partners after a decision by the competition commission. The terminal was built in 1977, with a new control tower being built in 2005. In 2011 the airport handled 9,385,245 passengers and 19,332 tonnes of Freight. The busiest route from Edinburgh is to London Heathrow. For more information about Edinburgh Airport please see our airport information page.

Fly UK offers many European flights, and one transatlantic flight as the airport is one of our bases. Edinburgh is also home to our many Highland Connection flights, so there is no excuse not to give Edinburgh a go! Our partners UK2000 scenery offer a fantastic add on for the airport, and all of our pilots receive a 15% discount when shopping with UK2000 online. See the offers and discounts page for more information.
