Dear Members,

We hope that you're enjoying your summer of flying with Fly UK! Thank you for continuing to fly with us. Here is our latest news and updates for members.

August was a great month in terms of activity at Fly UK. An average of 326 unique pilots per week filed a PIREP in August. We received 2796 Mainstream PIREPs, 1109 Tour PIREPs and 1022 Flying Club PIREPs.

Nordic Sky

We hope that by now you've had chance to see the new Nordic Sky operation! Operating from Bergen using a fleet of four Bombardier Q400's; Nordic Sky (branded as Nordic) offers flights into and over some of the most picturesque scenery going. If you enjoy short hops, challenging approaches and stunning scenery, we're confident you'll enjoy what Nordic has to offer.

It appears that Nordic has been well received by members; with upto and including a fifth of PIREPs filed in any given day being Nordic flights. In other news, the operations staff will be meeting in the coming days to discuss potential expansion plans for Winter 2016/17 and Summer 2017 operations.

More information about the Nordic Sky release can be found here.

New Flying Club Tours

The Flying Club has brought the Iceland Tour back from retirement because Orbx have re-released their freeware scenery. There is a link to the Iceland demo scenery on the tour page as it seems to be missing on the Orbx page. Make sure that you read the info to get the right download version.

Our new Heli Tour with twelve legs will give you some practice in rotorcraft. The tour starts with easier legs which become a bit more challenging as the tour progresses. There are some scenery issues for FS2004 users but info on the tour page will help you to get around the difficulties.

The Greek Islands Tour is proving popular over the summer, but get the legs in soon because we will be retiring it as winter approaches.

AI Traffic Pack Update

Our AI traffic packs for FS2004 and FSX have been updated to reflect the Fly UK summer schedules and the new Nordic Sky flights. For those members using vPilot, the Nordic Sky Dash8-Q400 has been added to the model matching files.

The updated files are now available on the Misc. Downloads page.

Thanks to UKV1973 Colin Gray and UKV1141 Adam Bartlam for their support on the AI traffic packs. Thanks also to UKV1786 - Darren Klenk for creating the VMR files and to UKV1204 - Terry Murphy and UKV1142 - Ken Hall for their assistance in helping to test the updated downloads.

Charter Flights

Charters has been re-established during July and August. Boeing 767's & an MD11F will continue flights to Rio during September to bring back all athletes, medals and to cater for the paralympics. A second Boeing 767 has been chartered to the RAF for flights to bases throughout the world, including Akrotiri, Ascension Islands and the Falkland Islands.

Following from the successful launch of Nordic Sky a Boeing 737-800 and an Airbus A320 have been busy connecting the Norwegian airports with Leeds Bradford and Birmingham. This will continue into September, with extra flights to Oktoberfest in Munich.

The F1 motorsport flights are also available for the remainder of the season. We are awaiting a Boeing 747-400F from maintenance during September, so watch for some 747 flights from Manchester.

We are always keen to get the views of pilots on possible charter destinations, whilst it is not always possible to cater for all requests they will all be noted and considered. Please use the forums to post ideas.

Staff Team Changes

There have been a number of staff team changes during the past few weeks. Richard Jones has taken a step back from his CEO duties due to a change in career and will be on leave for a few months whilst he gets himself settled down with that. Peter Faase has stepped down from his position as Tours Manager but will still remain an active and valued member of Fly UK!

Peter Nicholson joins us as a Marketing staff member and will initially be focusing on giving our social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube some much needed attention.

We wish Richard all the best with his new career. A big thank you to Peter Faase for all his time and effort on staff duties and finally a warm welcome to Peter Nicholson, good luck in your new role!

Refreshed Training Documents

We are undertaking a refresh of our training documentation, to bring it up-to-date and to give it a new company format. So far both the TeamViewer Setup and TeamSpeak Setup documents have been updated, together with the installation guides for the SkyTrack Prompter Tool and the Fly UK GSX package.

We are also about to release a new Guide to Online Flying, with the aim of providing all the information necessary to help pilots to fly online for the first time.

There is still much work to do, but watch out for future notices of updated or newly released documents.

Repaint for the Flight Sim Labs A320-X
