UKV1197 - Derek Butterworth
Dear Members, Fly UK will be at RAF Cosford this year for Flightsim 2019. It's a 2 day event, over the weekend of 5th/6th October. Please put this date in your diary and if you can, please join us on our stand on either of the days. Tickets can be bought here Last month's activity at Fly UK saw an average of 334 unique pilots per week filing a PIREP in May. We received 2,021 Mainstream PIREPs, 1,250 Tour PIREPs and 856 Flying Club PIREPs. Membership numbers currently stand at 986. Skyways Magazine As summer is at our door step, we're sure many of our members are travelling, be it virtually on our sims or in real life. Should any members have the wish to share their experiences, entries to the Skyways magazine must be submitted before July 31st to be included into the next edition. We do of course accept contributions to the magazine all year. Operations Highland Connects Flights to Isle of Scilly are back and live now using a Twin Otter. Fleet Matt Crick is working on some Flying Club repaints we hope to bring you soon. DocumentationA reminder that last month, we released a new addition to our suite of training documents – a detailed guide to Oceanic Flight and ATC Communication. This interesting and comprehensive document contains detailed descriptions of the subject, supported by charts, diagrams and examples of ATC transcripts, all designed to help pilots understand what can be a complex subject. It may be downloaded here. The document will be the foundation of future training programs and practice flights. Keep an eye on the forums for more details. With thanks to UKV1429 Stefano Biasiotti, in collaboration with UKV1323 Andre Almeida, UKV3764 Ross Elliot and UKV1678 Morten Hansen. Flying ClubThe World War 1 Centenary Tour will be moved to 'Retired' on 01 July 19 - all legs to be completed by 31 August 19. A new Ad Hoc tour has been added for the New York area. This month, our Wednesday Flying Club flights, held on the FSD server, will be a mixed collection. Wed 05 June 2019 at 1800z - ATC Event - Liverpool Wed 12 June 2019 at 1800z - NZ South Island Wed 19 June 2019 at 1800z - NZ North Island Wed 26 June 2019 at 1800z - Papua New Guinea Please visit our Flying Club page for more information and flight plans, and to register your attendance. Online EventsEvents are currently held on the FSD server on Saturday at 0600z and repeated on VATSIM, Tuesday at 1830z and Thursday at 1300z. Remember, online events have no rank restrictions so it's a chance to fly different airframes. Our IVAO event is on a weekly basis on Sundays at 1230z and we will now be deciding the flight details just 30 minutes before the event , so we can select airports with ATC. Please see the Event Calendar Our flight number on events was always FL903, but we have now changed to a new flight number system, based on the flight details. Our new flight number is based on which server we are flying on, the date of flight and the Flight Level, even or odd. For example: FL I1905E is IVAO 19th May Flight Level Even FL V1605E is VATSIM 16th May Flight Level EvenFL F0106O is FSD server on 1st June Flight Level Odd The Events team is also trying to support pilots that want to fly in Air-bridge type events run by VATSIM or IVAO that are not set up as Fly UK events. They have already started setting up more of these one-off events on our calendar booking system and these offer flights on different days and times, but we cannot set them all up as official Fly UK events. They have a work around for those events not set up on our event calendar, which will allow Fly UK members to take part in the event and file a PIREP with information from SkyTrack. So what is an Air-bridge event? It's where the all flight starts are between two nominated airports, flights can be in either direction and you can do both flights if you have the time. To be able to have your PIREP filed by the event team you must do a forum post stating that you are joining in this event, at least 4 days before the event, this is to encourage other Fly UK members to join and fly with you. On the day, you use SkyTrack but start the recording as a flying club flight and at the end of the flight, after you have stopped the recording, you DO NOT SUBMIT the file, but save it to your computer drive as an xml file. This should then be sent to the Business Support Director or Human Resources manager, and a manual PIREP will be filed for you using the data in the xml file received.
