Dear Members,

As always, there is plenty going on at Fly UK this April, including our 7th anniversary! We have a real world meet up organised for Sunday the 24th of April at an excellent fixed base B747 simulator in Coventry. We're really looking forward to this and hope we'll see plenty of you there.

We have released the F1 Motorsports Logistic flights, and it seems they are proving a popular hit as has been usual in the past! It's great to see many posts and pictures in the forum from pilot's operating these flights!

We are currently working hard to finish putting together the new Fly UK Development plan, which is being centred around the 2011 Wish List which was completed by members recently. We have lots of exciting new progressions, as well as a written answer to every question/suggestion made. We hope these updates will ensure Fly UK remains the UK's premier virtual airline, and continue to provide an excellent community for it's members.

Looking back at March, we had 470 unique pilots who flew with a UKV callsign and filed a combined total of 3140 PIREPs. We received 1886 mainstream PIREPs, 56 codeshare PIREPs, 982 tour PIREPs, 212 flying club PIREPs. 44 pilots completed tours in March.

Earlier this week, on 4th April, we celebrated Fly UK's 7th anniversary! That's right, it was 7 years ago since Fly UK first took to the virtual skies with our inaugural flight from Leeds Bradford to Jersey!

CEO Chris Sutcliffe comments: "A big thank you to all our members past and present. I hope that like myself, you are all proud of what we have achieved at Fly UK over the last 7 years. The spirit of the Fly UK and it's friendly community makes this a truly unique and enjoyable place to be."

If you are interested in finding out more about how Fly UK came into existence and how we have, through innovative development and forward thinking, grown to become one of the UK's best-known organisations in virtual aviation, take a look at the History & Milestones page.

- Staff Recruitment

Fly UK is now recruiting a Graphics Designer, Marketing Manager, Operations Manager and a Web & Systems Manager. In fact, if you feel that you have the experience, intelligence, interest and time to devote to to run any aspect of Fly UK, we would like to hear from you!

When you join the Fly UK staff team, you'll soon discover that running a virtual airline is more complex and detailed than you may have originally thought, involving an enormous amount of planning and hard work.

Therefore, in order to make the operation run smoothly, effectively and efficiently we have to ensure we have the very best people as part of our team. It doesn't matter which department you join or role you take, as a Fly UK staff member, you are critical to ensuring our long term success.

To learn about what is required for the different roles and how to apply, please visit our management careers page.

- Staff Changes

We are sad to announce that UKV1341 - Trevor Darley has decided to step-down from his position at the Flying Club to go enjoy flying once again and to allow a new era of the flying club.

We would all like to personally thank Trevor for everything he has done for the Flying Club. He has worked very hard, attended and organised countless events for everybody's benefit. He has been very successful at building the Flying Club up and without him it wouldn't be anything like as popular as it is today.

UKV1838 - Liam Mulryan has also gone on extended leave from his staff duties due to personal issues.

We welcome UKV1238 - Brian Hudson to the staff team who joins us as Trevor's replacement in the Flying Club. We wish Brian all the best in his new position.

- NOTAM ALPHA

After a recent check of PIREPs we have noticed that some pilots are not using the aircraft type stated on our flight schedules or a similar aircraft type as a replacement.

For example, we have noticed several PIREPs where pilots have flown aircraft not in our fleet, namely the A380, B772 & J41.

There are also several other instances where pilots have not flown the aircraft stated on our flight schedules and not chosen a similar aircraft as a replacement. For example, flying an ATR72 route with a B747 or flying a B737 route with a B767.

Pilots should use the aircraft type stated on flight schedules. We understand that some pilots who use FSX or certain payware aircraft may on occasions need to use a different aircraft type from what is stated on the flight schedules. In this case, all we ask is that you choose a similar aircraft type. For example flying a B737 route with an A320, or a B744 route with an A340.

An aircraft not in our fleet or which has a vastly different size, cruise speed/altitude compared to the aircraft stated on our flight schedules is not acceptable.

This information is also available in the Pilot Handbook.
