UKV1121 - Chris Sutcliffe
Dear Members, April was a great birthday month for Fly UK, 7 years seems to have gone so fast! Our main project for May is to release our summer schedules. We will have plenty of new flights and destinations available in the next couple of weeks. We hope you continue to enjoy flying with us here at Fly UK and we would like thank all members for your continued support. Here is our latest update to members which contains all our latest news and events. We hope you will find the time to give it a good read! Looking back at April, we had 496 unique pilots who flew with a UKV callsign and filed a combined total of 3154 PIREPs. We received 1739 mainstream PIREPs, 91 codeshare PIREPs, 1178 tour PIREPs, 266 flying club PIREPs. 45 pilots completed tours in April. - Operations Update Our operations team are currently working hard putting together all the data required for us to launch our summer schedules. Revised schedules with new destinations will begin in the next couple of weeks. NOTAMs will be released when we have confirmed dates. Similar to last year, we will be operating some flights from Birmingham, Newcastle and Glasgow in addition to our normal bases. Our 2 new ATR72-500 aircraft are due to be delivered from Toulouse on Saturday 14th May. The delivery flights will be added as ad-hoc flights available to all Fly UK members to fly. A NOTAM will be posted in the next couple of days with full details. The delivery of our new Embraer 190 aircraft has been delayed. For now our Fokker 100 aircraft will remain in the fleet until we take delivery of the new Embraer 190s. We apologise for the delay and anticipate we will take delivery of the aircraft and have them in service next month. Once we have aircraft deliveries and the summer schedules completed, we are going to pay particular attention to our long-haul, worldwide network. We know this is one area where many of you would like to see us expand and add new destinations. - New AI Traffic Package for FS2004/FSX We have released a newly updated version of our AI Traffic package, available for both FS2004 and FSX. The package features a full liveried fleet of Fly UK AI aircraft in Union Spirit livery. Timetables are an accurate representation of the current Fly UK mainstream timetables (excluding codeshare & ad-hoc flights). This new package will enhance pilots' offline flying experience. It means that if you set your flight simulator time to that of a chosen Fly UK flight, you should be able to see the other Fly UK aircraft with correct registration and flight number departing for their destinations! We recommend you uninstall any previous versions of the Fly UK AI traffic package which you may have installed before installing the new version 3.1. The new package can be downloaded from the 'Misc. Fly UK' section of our downloads page. - Fly UK Piper PA28-201 Arrow III now available for FSX! The Fly UK Flying Club are pleased to release a new aircraft package! Our Piper PA28-201 Arrow III for FSX is now available to download. The self-install package includes a 2D panel, virtual cockpit and Fly UK Flying Club repaint. Check out the press release for further information and download link. - Coventry B747 Simulator Event Report On Sunday 24th April, members of Fly UK travelled to Coventry to take part in our first group simulator day. The event was very enjoyable and a great success. We have released an event report with photo's and full information about the day. We hope to return to the simulator and organise more Fly UK simulator days in the future. In the meantime, we thoroughly recommend the simulator which is available to hire by the hour for pleasure flights, lessons and more. Full information can be found on the simulator website at: http://www.747simulator.co.uk. If you are thinking of making a visit, feel free to contact us in advance if you have any questions. You will have a great experience and will be made to feel very welcome. Also, make sure you mention you are from Fly UK when booking! Read the event report for more information about the day and some photos! - Real World Event - FSC Weston 2011 We would like to remind all members about the annual flight simulator convention taking place at the Helicopter Museum in Weston-Super-Mare on the 14th and 15th May. Although Fly UK will not be officially exhibiting at this year's event, it is still a great day out and we encourage members to attend. If you are planning on attending we would encourage you to post in the Fly UK forum to let other members know so you can look out for each other on the day. For the most up to date event information please visit the official website: http://www.fscweston.co.uk. - Staff Team Update We are pleased to welcome UKV1763 - Johnathan Barrett and UKV1768 - Callum Gowans to the staff team. Johnathan joins us as a web & systems manager and Callum as a graphic designer. We wish Jonathan and Callum the best of luck in their new positions. In addition to this, we will have 2 new operations staff starting with us in the next couple of weeks. - Staff Vacancy - Marketing Manager We are currently looking to recruit a marketing manager. To learn more about what is required and to find out how to apply, please visit our management careers page. - Wish List Responses / Development Plan Update We are in the final stages of completing our new development plan which is based on the feedback from the 2011 wish list which was completed by members earlier this year. We did hope to release this last month, however some of the staff team have been busy with real world commitments which has meant we have been unable to finish it. A press release will be posted as soon as we have had chance to complete the plan and responses to all the suggestions we received. Thank you for your patience. - Screenshot Competition - Sponsored by UK2000 Scenery Thank you to all members who submitted entries for the April screenshot competition. Voting has now closed and congratulations to UKV1586 - Carl Chamberlain who came in first place with his winning shot 'Sunrise Departure'. Well done to runners up UKV1370 - Svilen Vassilev in second place and UKV1625 - Graham Hammill in third place. The May competition is now up and running and the theme is 'City Flying'! To enter the competition and be in with a chance of winning a UK2000 Xtreme scenery package, please visit the screenshot competition section of our forums. Full information as well as competition rules can be found there too. - Event - Multi-start to Gatwick - Sat 14th May - 0600z On Saturday 14th of May, the IVAO weekly group flight will be a multi-start event to Gatwick, carrying football fans from around Europe to London for the FA Cup Final at Wembley stadium. Each pilot will set off from a different departure airport (which will be allocated by staff) and arrive in London Gatwick between 0700z and 0730z. We have hosted similar multi-start events in the past and they have always proved to be very popular and enjoyable by having lots of Fly UK aircraft arriving into one airport within a half hour period. Remember for events there are no rank restrictions so you fly aircraft which you may not usually be able to! If you're interested in taking part in this event, please confirm your attendance on the event page and post in the forums to have your departure airport allocated. - Online Events for May - Get Involved If you fly online then make sure you join us and experience at least one of our many online events this May at Fly UK. We have our usual weekly Saturday morning group flights, a Tuesday evening group flight on IVAO, a Wednesday evening group flight on VATSIM and a Sunday afternoon Flying Club adventure in New Zealand. Weekly Group Flights (IVAO): - Sat 14th May - 0600z - Multi-start to Gatwick - Sat 21st May - 0600z - Santo Domingo to St Maarten - Sat 28th May - 0600z - Phuket to Singapore VATSIM Group Flight: - Wed 18th May - 1900z - Liverpool to Cork IVAO Group Flight: - Tue 10th May - 1700z - IVAO UK Trophy Event - Gatwick to Turin Flying Club Adventure (FSD Server): - Sun 22nd May - 1330z - Lord of the Rings Trip - New Zealand In addition to the Fly UK organised events featured in our events calendar, we have also added a new section to the events page to advertise non-Fly UK organised IVAO and VATSIM events which you may be interested in taking part in.
