It's Christmas Time at Fly UK

Christmas is fast approaching and we have plenty going on to keep you entertained here at Fly UK over the festive period!

- Lapland Charter Flights

Our annual charter flights to Lapland will be available to book from the 1st of December until the 24th of December. Flights are operating to Rovaniemi and Kitila from Edinburgh, Newcastle, Manchester, Leeds Bradford, Birmingham and London Gatwick. Aircraft types being used are the Boeing 737-800, Boeing 767-300 and Airbus A320-232.

See press release for full information.

- Annual IVAO/VATSIM Group Flight Events to Lapland

This year our annual Christmas group flight events to Rovaniemi will be departing London Gatwick. We'll be flying on the same nights as the official IVAO/VATSIM Christmas events in order to take advantage of the full ATC coverage. We expect the traffic levels around Finland to be extremely busy so be prepared!

Saturday 17th of December - 1830z - IVAO - London Gatwick to Rovaniemi
Sunday 18th of December - 1800z - VATSIM - London Gatwick to Rovaniemi

We hope many of you will be able to join us on what has become some what of a Fly UK tradition! Please confirm your attendance via the relevant event page link above and remember to pop on Fly UK Teamspeak before and after the events!

- Flying Club Scrabble Challenge!

Throughout December you are invited to take the Scrabble challenge. Starting at our home base (EGCJ), pilots should visit as many EG airfields as they wish. Points will be allocated based on the scrabble score of the last two letters in the ICAO identifier. For example, Bembridge (EGHJ) would count as 12 pts, 4 for the H and 8 for the J. Barton (EGCB) would be 6 pts, 3 for the C and 3 for the B. Double points will be scored for airfields where the longest runway is less than 3000 feet and triple points will be scored for grass airfields. So Bembridge is a double point airfield as the longest runway is 2745'. Barton is a triple as it is grass.

Pilots wishing to take part should register their 'attendance' on the Flying Club page where you can also find further details and the rules.

Wednesday evening informal sessions will continue as normal (from 1900z). During December we'll be having some fun flying a few of the FSX missions. All are welcome, so if you fancy a spot of hands-on flying with a bit of friendly banter thrown in then feel free to come along!

- Boxing Day Free Flight - FSD Server

For those wanting to avoid the boxing day sales, or forget all about Christmas, some of us are planning to be around on boxing day afternoon for a flight on the Fly UK FSD server. Feel free to pop on Teamspeak and join us for a flight and a chat!

- Screenshot Competition - Win a UK2000 Xtreme Scenery Package

The December competition is now up and running and the theme is 'Winter Weather'! To enter the competition and be in with a chance of winning a UK2000 Xtreme scenery package for Christmas, submit your entries before the 23rd of December. Full information as well as competition rules can be found in the forum. Good luck to everyone and we hope to see some fantastic shots. Happy snapping!
