On behalf of the Fly UK staff team I would like to wish all members a Happy New Year!

Overall 2009 was a fairly good year for Fly UK. We would like to thank all pilots for your continued support and we hope you continue to enjoy flying with us in 2010.

This communication includes all the latest news, events and updates for January.

- Staff Team Changes

Being a member of staff team is very demanding and involves spending a lot more spare time on Fly UK. Real world commitments always come first and as peoples real world circumstances change so does the amount of time they have to spend on their hobby. It will always be the case that there will be changes to the staff team from time to time. Do not be alarmed, it is simply the way this hobby goes...

Chris Miley has stepped down from the Vice CEO position, purely due to the fact he does not have enough time as he is at university. As a result of this I am pleased to announce that Adam Hillier has decided to return to Fly UK and will take up the position of Vice CEO with immediate effect. I would like to thank Chris for all his work and contributions to Fly UK and I am pleased he will be remaining with us in an advisory role.

Most of you will already know Adam very well. He has been the Vice CEO of Fly UK before when I left for a brief period and he has been with us as an advisor for many months. Adam has completed the majority of his ground school studies on his ATPL course and now has more free time. I am absolutely certain Adam is the right person for the job and I am very pleased he has chosen to return to Fly UK. Adams first hand experiences of real world aviation will be a great benefit to Fly UK.

Other changes include Kevin Carter taking over Ben Dobson's role of events manager. Ben will remain on the team working on a number of new projects. Derek Butterworth has stepped down as head of the Training Academy. Derek will continue to be a training instructor and the running of the Training Academy will now be handled by the CEO and Vice CEO. Finally, Steve Bishop has stepped down as a training instructor due to the fact he no longer has the time to commit to a staff position. Steve will continue to fly with us as a pilot.

We will not be recruiting new people to replace staff who have recently left. We seem to work better as a smaller close-knit team so for now the work load will be spread across existing staff. If it gets to a point where there is too much work for the team to cope with, we will recruit new staff.

2010 is set to be an exciting year at Fly UK, there is plenty going on! In April we will be celebrating our 6th birthday. You can find out more about how we'll be making Fly UK even better in the following post.

FLIGHTTRACKER.png

Thanks to UKV1174 - Jeffrey Shen our IVAO online operations manager we now have a new flight tracker which shows all UKV pilots online on IVAO/VATSIM. It can be found on the Flight Operations (FOP) page located under the operations menu (previously called the Fly UK Today page). Click the current flights tab.

- 2010 Real World Events

We are currently in the process of speaking to the organisers of various flight simulator events due to be held in 2010. We hope to be in a position next week to announce some confirmed event dates.

- FS2004 & FSX Fleet Review

We are currently in the process of reviewing our FS2004 and FSX fleet downloads. This includes re creating all the auto install packages, making sure everything is correct, releasing new repaints and updating existing repaints and packages. There will be a post in the forums in the next few days to advise when the fleet review is complete and what changes/updates have been made.

- Downloadable Flight Plans/Flight Dispatch

All pilots flying online on IVAO/VATSIM should use the downloadable flight plans available to download for most flights on the flight dispatch page once you have booked a flight. We have fixed a couple of problems with the downloadable flight plans - many thanks to Chris Spencer.

You should now find an alternate airport is entered automatically. The only problem you may still come across is with the number of passengers, you will need to check this figure before submitting your flight plan.

We are aware that some data displayed on the CFP section of the flight dispatch pages is incorrect. The errors have been posted in the bug tracker and will be fixed as soon as possible.

- Fly UK vRoute Community

Users of vRoute no longer need to contact us via the forums to request to join the Fly UK community on vRoute.

We have recently been in contact with Michal Rok at vRoute who has setup a system whereby all Fly UK pilots who provide us with their VATSIM ID via the Fly UK 'My Controls' page will be automatically sent an invitation to join the community via vRoute.
