Fly UK Supporting World Flight 2008 & ORBIS

Fly UK are pleased to announce that we will be once again supporting World Flight Scotland's fundraising efforts for ORBIS throughout this years World Flight 2008 event. Read on for more information about World Flight 2008, the A300 sim and how you can get involved and make a difference.

What is World Flight?

2008 Dates - Sunday 2nd November - Sunday 9th November

For those of you that don't know, Worldflight is a great VATSIM fundraising event that takes place every year. It involves 7 days solid flying taking in 45 destinations on 5 Continents.

World Flight is a Virtual Round the World Flight to raise money for various worthy Charities around the globe. Teams use their own Home-built Airliner Simulators, flying with real Airline procedures, Charts and Virtual Air Traffic Control supplied by the VATSIM Network. The teams also use weather programs which simulate the real world weather conditions for ultimate reality.

The concept of a virtual round the world flight for charity was started 8 years ago by a team in the United Kingdom, and has spawned an annual event with participants all over the globe. 'World Flight Australia' was started in 2001 and has become the leading team with other teams in the UK, USA, Canada and Scotland joining the flight over the years, all flying the same route as one large group. Each team select their own needy charity, raising funds through donations and corporate sponsorship.

What will Fly UK be doing and how to Get Involved?

There are a number of ways you can get involved and help Fly UK support World Flight Scotland's fundraising efforts for ORBIS. We're still finalising some of the details so be sure to check our special information page soon for updates, but here are the plans so far:

- Fly UK ORBIS / World Flight Logojets - We'll soon be releasing limited edition logojet repaints that will be available to download for a minimum donation of £2 via PayPal with all proceeds going to ORBIS. A press release will be posted as soon as the logojets are released and available to download.

- Flying the World Flight Legs on VATSIM - We're encouraging all Fly UK pilots to show their support by taking part and FLYING the routes. VATSIM ATC is provided for the ENTIRE week covering EVERY sector. We want to see as many UKV's taking part as possible.

- Charity Auction - Steve Masson (A300 sim owner) is organising an online eBay auction, you'll be able to bid on a number of flight sim goods and all proceeds will be going to ORBIS. Watch out for more information coming soon!

- Sponsor & Support Fly UK Members flying A300 sim during World Flight - We are looking at organising for a few lucky Fly UK members to travel to the A300 sim in Scotland and take the controls and fly some of the world flight legs. If this goes ahead, we'll let you know who's taking part and how to sponsor them!

Throughout World Flight 2008, we'll be making regular updates to our website and forums with all the latest news and updates, we'll also be following the progress of the A300 World Flight Scotland team, as well as the many other teams taking part around the world.
