Fly UK Chairman’s Announcement – Senior Staff Changes
Posted 24 Feb 2015
During this time I am delighted to announce that Derek Butterworth, formerly Vice CEO, has agreed to take over the day-to-day management as CEO. I am also pleased to announce that he will be assisted by Richard Jones, formerly Head of Online Events, who takes over the role of Deputy CEO.
I’m sure many of you know both Derek and Richard who have both been long standing and well regarded members of our community. I strongly believe they are well suited to these new roles and am sure you will join me in wishing them every success.
In addition to this, I will be returning to take a more active role in Fly UK along with Adam Hillier as Vice Chairman. Some of you may already know us, however for those that don’t:
Adam has been with Fly UK since 2005 and was a key member of the staff team in the early days, helping to lay the foundations for the VA and help it grow. He has previously been involved with various departments including Marketing, Operations and the Training Academy. Furthermore he also has experience of holding the CEO/Vice CEO roles. In the real world, Adam is a First Officer for Guernsey based airline Aurigny, flying the ATR.
I setup Fly UK in April 2004 and held the CEO position until January 2013. As well as the duties of CEO, my main focus was the website, mainly front end design but working closely with the various developers we’ve had over the years to improve our systems and prioritise new features and ideas. In the real world I work in the Head Office for a UK based airline/tour operator in Business Development.
While Derek and Richard will concentrate on the day to day management of Fly UK, Adam and I will be focusing on the strategy and plans to drive our VA forward and build on our success. We have a number of exciting changes being worked on and we hope to reveal some of them over the next few weeks.
